Parametric specialist Descartes Underwriting has announced the hiring of insurance market veteran Sébastien Bardy to the newly created position of Chief Financial Officer, who joins the organisation from German insurer Allianz.In his new role, Bardy will report to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tanguy Touffut and lead Descartes’ financial scale-up with a focus on value creation for stakeholders.He will also build on the strong foundations established by the current team in recent years.Overall, Bardy brings more than 20 years of industry experience towards his new role.

As mentioned, Bardy joins Descartes from Allianz, where he held senior positions in France and Germany, most recently as Head of Planning & Controlling for Global Lines, Anglo Markets, Asia Pacific & IT.Bardy also previously held roles at Deloitte, Natixis, and PwC in areas including accounting, capital management, and M&A.Moreover, Chloé Duval, who joined Descartes as Head of Finance and played a notable role in building a strong team and infrastructure, has been appointed Deputy CFO.

In this role, she will oversee financial projects and corporate finance, serving as a key partner to Bardy and the broader Finance team.With Bardy’s appointment, Violaine Raybaud, Chief Operating Officer, whose scope initially included the Finance department, will also now be able to focus fully on Operations and Descartes Insurance.Touffut commented: “I am delighted to welcome Sébastien to the management team.
