AIG sets up another sidecar-style syndicate at Lloyd's with Blackstone, Amwins, AI in the mix

AIG has announced another special purpose vehicle launch in the Lloyd’s of London marketplace, as the insurer has partnered again with Blackstone on another sidecar-style syndicate, while this time distribution giant Amwins and artificial intelligence supplied by Palantir are also in the mix.Syndicate 2479 is the latest venture that sees AIG bringing third-party capital to support underwriting insurance business in an efficient manner and once again the insurer has looked to Lloyd’s as the platform.Syndicate 2479 is dubbed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) at Lloyd’s and will be managed by Talbot Underwriting Limited.The new syndicate will provide risk capacity for portfolio solutions and is also being supported by capital commitments from Amwins and funds managed by Blackstone.

In this case, no disclosure has been made about whether the Lloyd’s insurance-linked securities (ILS) structure London Bridge 2 PCC has been used to channel capital funding to the new syndicate, but given , it’s possible the structure has again been utilised for this latest vehicle.AIG calls Syndicate 2479, which will begin underwriting from January 1st 2026 starting with $300 million of premium that will be managed by AIG, “a novel structure involving a specialty distributor, insurer and Lloyd’s syndicate backed with third-party capital.” That portfolio consists of a broad and highly diversified cross section of Amwins’ ~$6 billion of delegated authority premiums, AIG explained.AIG has also brought artificial intelligence into the mix for its latest third-party capitalised Lloyd’s syndicate vehicle.

AIG, Palantir and Amwins are collaborating using generative AI to enable enhanced data retrieval and comprehensive analysis of portfolios of insurance risk, the trio explained.AIG said it will leverage Palantir’s Foundry platform and multiple Large Language Model agents in order to retrive data rapidly and evaluate defined risk characteristics to understand the Amwins’ portfolio of program business aligns with the Syndicate’s risk appetite.AIG further said it has developed an ontology for its data, which is designed to help Large Language Models access over four million industry data points to further expand its underwriting capabilities.
