
Reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter has announced the hiring of Gen Re senior executive Pietro Toffanello, who will become the firms new Head of Japan during the first-quarter of 2021.Toffanello has a more than 25 year career in reinsurance, the majority of which was spent at the now Berkshire Hathaway owned Gen Re.Most recently, Toffanello held the role of Managing Director for Property & Casualty for the UK, Ireland, Italy and Sub-Saharan Africa at Gen Re.Before that, Toffanello spent just over one year at Lloyd’s specialist underwriter Faraday as its CEO.
Prior to that, Toffanello held positions at Gen Re as Managing Director and CEO for Australia and Regional Manager for Property & Casualty treaty reinsurance business for Asia and the Pacific region, as well as a Regional Manager for EMEA, a branch manager for property facultative risks, and to begin as a senior underwriter.As Head of Japan, Tofanello will manage Guy Carpenter’s business operations across Japan, a key reinsurance marketplace.His focus will be on developing new business opportunities and extending the range of solutions that Guy Carpenter offers across the region, to better meet evolving client needs.
