Insurance and reinsurance broker Miller, the independent and private equity funded broking group, is seeking to build on its insurance-linked securities (ILS) activity in Bermuda with the hire of former Markel and Lodgepine employee John Duda.John Duda is set to join Miller in June and comes from his most recent role as the retrocessional reinsurance portfolio management team lead at Markel’s in-run-off retrocession investment manager Lodgepine Capital Management Limited.when he joined the company as Assistant Vice President, Reinsurance Underwriter for Markel Re.He when that retro ILS manager entity was launched in 2019, but since that has gone into run-off Duda is moving on to this new opportunity.

Duda rejoins his former Markel colleague .Duda has also worked as a Portfolio Manager for Logic Reinsurance in Toronto and held roles at reinsurance broker Benfield (then Aon Benfield) and Guy Carpenter, working in the Canadian and Advisory teams.Duda has an analytics background and has focused his career on the placement of property catastrophe business.

He has also worked for Zurich Financial Services in London.At Miller, Duda will hold the role of Head of ILS Development & Capital Management Products and he will be focused on developing business in the Bermuda market, reporting to Head of ILS, Erik Manning.Miller continues to invest in new talent in Bermuda, with a particular focus on catastrophe reinsurance, retrocession and insurance-linked securities (ILS).———————————————————————.
