Serve Up Stovetop and Oven Safety

I’ve written about stovetop fire extinguishers before, but I also want to share some general stovetop and oven safety tips with you.Since I’ve been working from home, I’m cooking a lot more and using my stovetop and/or oven daily, and that’s true for many others these days! Here are some easy tips to follow for safe cooking: Make sure your stove and oven hood are correctly installed.Have a working and updated fire extinguisher nearby.

Tie long hair back and tuck in loose clothing.Wear non-slip footwear.Make sure to use protective hot mitts when moving pots and pans.

Be careful not to splash hot oil – ouch! (using a splatter guard may help) Turn pot handles inward so they won’t be bumped and knocked off.Don’t leave stovetop pans unattended and make sure everything is turned off when done.Keep your stove and oven clean, because grease and debris from cooking can ignite.

Do not use the oven for storage. Also, since I’ve been doing more cooking, I’ve been getting a lot of use out of my kitchen knife set.Know your knives! We all know that accidents happen, but these tips could make a world of difference when it comes to protecting yourself, your home, and your family.
