Urs Baertschi, CEO of P&C Reinsurance at Swiss Re, today emphasised that the company’s third-party capital markets focused Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) division remains an important part of the services and capabilities offered to its clients, while also saying that when it comes to the reinsurance sector’s capital pools, it’s not a case of “either or”.Swiss Re’s Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) division encompasses the companies dedicated various units and offerings that intersect with the capital markets in activities undertaken by the firm. That includes its two insurance-linked securities (ILS) fund management units, its risk-sharing partnerships with investors through quota share reinsurance sidecar arrangements such as Sector Re, and its activity in catastrophe bond structuring, bookrunning and secondary market trading within the Swiss Re Capital Markets unit.At Swiss Re’s briefing at RVS 2025 in Monte Carlo today, we asked the senior executives what the reinsurer’s plans were for growing its alternative capital partners division into 2026.
“This is an important part of what we’re providing as a service and a capability to our clients. So we’re in this business, and we expect to continue to operate and provide these services to our clients,” Baertschi said. Also, during the briefing, Baertschi highlighted how the capital markets are an important part of the overall capital stack.
“So, the capital markets are an important part of the overall capital stack, and the choice that insurance companies have to protect their balance sheet and their income statement, and it’s a well-functioning market.“It’s not really one or the other. It’s really a combination of them both, and that’s what insurance companies can do, and even the public sector as well, to tap into various capital pools to protect themselves.
“It’s not an either or, it’s an and, and it’s a well-functioning market and an important part of the overall capital.”.All of our Artemis Live insurance-linked securities (ILS), catastrophe bonds and reinsurance can be accessed online. Our can be subscribed to using the typical podcast services providers, including Apple, Google, Spotify and more.
