Atrium, a specialty insurer at the Lloyd’s insurance and reinsurance marketplace has been granted “in principle” approval from Lloyd’s to launch its new delegated property catastrophe and weather and climate risk-focused Syndicate 2026 and has secured backing from both traditional and institutional capital sources.For those unaware, Atrium currently manages Syndicate 609, which writes insurance and reinsurance business across property, casualty, and specialty business groups.As per Atrium, Syndicate 2026 will start underwriting from January 1, 2026, subject to the completion of all final approvals.The company also noted that the new syndicate will initially target gross written premiums (GWP) of $150 million for the 2026 year of account.
In addition, Atrium also said that Syndicate 2026 represents an important milestone in the organisation’s history and marks another important step in the delivery of its strategic transformation agenda.Syndicate 2026 has been provided with capital support from a combination of trade, institutional and traditional capital, while broker Aon and global independent investment bank Evercore provided capital advisory support.Industry veteran Rachel Grunert, who has over 30 years of extensive experience and deep underwriting expertise, following her time as an Accident & Health underwriter, will lead the new syndicate as Active Underwriter.
