Families First Coronavirus Response Act

President Trump signed into law on March 18, 2020 the Families First Coronavirus Response Act requiring employers with 500 or fewer employees to provide emergency paid sick leave and family leave to employees dealing with the impact of COVID-19.Below is a high-level summary of these two components of the Act, which become effective as of April 1, 2020:   Compensation under the new paid sick leave law Under the new paid sick leave law, employers must pay employees their regular rate of pay if the employee is taking leave for a reason related to their own symptoms of, or exposure to, COVID-19.Employees who are taking leave to care for family members are only entitled to be paid at two-thirds of their regular rate.
