Squarepoint hires Guillaume Legal as ILS Portfolio Manager

Squarepoint, a leading privately held quantitative investment manager, is pushing into insurance-linked securities, with its latest move being the hiring of Guillaume Legal as ILS Portfolio Manager, who joins the firm from his most recent position specialising in ILS at SCOR Investment Partners.Squarepoint, or Squarepoint Capital as it is often referred to, is a a data and technology driven specialist in quantitative multi-strategy investing, reportedly having around US $182 billion of assets under management as of late 2025.The firm has been known to have an interest in insurance-linked securities and reinsurance linked investments for a while, but has recently been making moves to formalise ILS as an asset class within the companies operations.We understand that one of its heads of portfolio management, Stéphane Hamel, added ILS to his responsibilities in the third-quarter of 2025, becoming the Global Head for Fundamental Credit, Structured Credit, Convertibles and ILS of Squarepoint.

Other reinsurance investment and ILS activities have been explored out of the London multi-strat hedge fund team at Squarepoint, we are told.Now, Squarepoint has added a dedicated ILS Portfolio Manager in well-known industry executive Guillaume Legal, who announced his joining the firm this week on LinkedIn.Legal joined Squarepoint in February 2026 as ILS Portfolio Manager, having departed his previous position in the insurance-linked securities team at SCOR Investment Partners.

At SCOR Investment Partners, Legal was most recently Senior ILS Analyst, prior to which he was the Head of Collateralised Reinsurance and Weather Derivatives Sourcing and Analysis and also held a role as a Senior ILS Portfolio Manager., having spent 16 years at that company as a Senior ILS Portfolio Manager.Prior to that, Legal worked at Societe Generale as an ILS analyst and AXA Investment Managers as a fixed income analyst.
