As part of our 25 for 25 initiative, April was dedicated to supporting an organization making a difference for animals in the Rochester community. Each recipient throughout the year is selected with input from the community, and this month, that led us to Camp Companion.Through their work as a foster-based rescue, Camp Companion provides care, stability, and a path to adoption for dogs and cats in need.A Foster-Based Approach to Animal RescueCamp Companion operates through a network of foster homes rather than a central facility. This model allows animals to live in real home environments while they wait to be adopted, helping them adjust, receive individualized care, and build positive routines.Their work relies on a community of dedicated volunteers who open their homes and provide day-to-day care, creating a more comfortable and supportive experience for each animal.
From intake to adoption, the focus is on giving every dog and cat the time and attention they need to find the right fit.Meet AtlasAs part of highlighting Camp Companion’s impact, we featured Atlas, a name that felt like a natural fit.Atlas, a Saint Bernard, had a personality just as big as his size.He was affectionate, energetic, and still learning structure and consistency after going through a major life change.Like many young, large breeds, he needed guidance, patience, and the right environment to help him settle in and thrive. His story reflected the kind of work Camp Companion does every day.
That includes meeting animals where they are, providing the support they need, and helping prepare them for a successful transition into a permanent home.A New Chapter for AtlasShortly after being featured, Atlas found his new home. That outcome is the goal for every animal that comes through Camp Companion’s foster network. With the support of foster families and the broader community, dogs and cats are given the opportunity to reset, build routines, and ultimately find the right home for the next chapter of their lives.Wrapping Up April with Camp CompanionTo close out April’s 25 for 25 partnership, Michele and Liz from Camp Companion stopped by our office with Iris and Poppy, two littermate puppies currently in foster care through the organization. The visit gave us the opportunity to officially present our $2,000 donation, capture photos together, and spend time learning more about Camp Companion’s foster-based rescue model and the work that goes into caring for animals before they find permanent homes.Iris and Poppy quickly became the stars of the visit. They served as a reminder of the impact local rescues can have through the support of volunteers, foster families, and community members.
It was a meaningful way to wrap up April’s partnership and continue highlighting organizations making a difference throughout the Rochester area.Continuing the ImpactApril was a meaningful month in our 25 for 25 initiative.Camp Companion’s work highlights the role the community plays in supporting animals in need, whether through fostering, adopting, volunteering, or donating. We’re grateful for the opportunity to highlight their mission, and we look forward to continuing this initiative throughout the year.Learn More About Camp CompanionFollow Along with 25 for 25
