Calidris Investment Partners, the insurance-focused investment manager backed by RedBird Capital Partners, has made three key hires as the firm continues to expand its platform, including James Larner, who joins the firm as Director of Investor Partnerships.At the same time, Calidris has also appointed Chelsea Smith as Finance and Operations Manager, and Abigail Exon as Quantitative Strategies Manager.These appointments follow a period of rapid momentum for Calidris.by former Ontario Teachers’ insurance-linked securities (ILS) specialist, Philippe Trahan, and Daniel Miller, a former Blackstone insurance transaction specialist, Calidris announced its market entry earlier this year with the successful completion of its inaugural $550 million reinsurance sidecar transaction with QBE Re.
In January, QBE Re, the international reinsurance arm of QBE, closed its first casualty reinsurance sidecar vehicle, securing over $550 million in fully collateralised quota share reinsurance through George Street Re.The sidecar was backed by Calidris Investment Partners and Culpeper Capital Partners, both being experienced specialists in the insurance and reinsurance space.Calidris Investment Partners made a series of key leadership hires, with Marcus Foley joining the firm as Director of Quantitative Strategies, Natasha Osborne as Director of Finance and Operations, and Andrew Brooks, former CEO of Ascot Group and Deputy Chair and Council member of Lloyd’s, as a Non-Executive Director to its Board.
Now, Calidris has made a further series of key hires as it looks to expand further across the market.In his new role as Director of Investor Partnerships, Larner will reportedly spearhead Calidris’ global capital partnerships strategy, including investor outreach and relationship management.Overall, Larner brings nearly 20 years of experience in capital formation towards his new role.
He also boasts a proven track record in delivering solutions to institutional investors, family offices, asset managers and investment consultants.Larner joins Calidris following a decade of service at Partners Group and Pillar Capital where he previously led business development and investor relations across a wide range of clients.Daniel Miller, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Calidris, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome James to the Calidris team.
