Drive past our office on East Main Street in Stafford Springs and you’ll see it before you see anything else.Old Glory, flying high.Red, white, and blue catching the morning light.
That flag isn’t decoration. It’s our brand. It’s who we are.
People ask me all the time why an insurance agency makes such a big deal about the American flag.Easy answer: because the flag stands for the same things we get up every morning to fight for.Family.
Freedom.Sacrifice.The chance to build something and protect it.
You can’t separate that from what we do here, and honestly, I wouldn’t want to.So let’s talk about what the flag actually stands for, because it’s a whole lot more than three colors on a piece of fabric. The Colors Carry Meaning Most folks see red, white, and blue and think America, freedom, the Fourth of July.
All true. But the founders picked those colors on purpose, and each one tells you something about the kind of country they were trying to build.Red stands for hardiness and valor.
The grit. The willingness to stand your ground when standing your ground costs you something.White stands for purity and innocence, the ideals this country was founded to protect.
And blue stands for vigilance, perseverance, and justice. The discipline to keep watch and the backbone to keep going when it gets hard.Hardiness, valor, vigilance, perseverance, justice.
Read that list again. That’s not just a flag. That’s a way to live, and it’s the standard we try to hold ourselves to every day we open these doors.
The Stars and the Stripes Tell a Story Count the stars and you’ll find fifty, one for every state in the union.Count the stripes and you’ll find thirteen, one for each of the original colonies that decided they’d rather risk everything than stay comfortable under somebody else’s rule.Think about that for a second.
Thirteen stripes for thirteen groups of people who bet their lives, their land, and their families on the idea that they could govern themselves. They built something out of nothing. They handed it down.
Now there are fifty stars, and every one of them got there because somebody worked, sacrificed, and fought to add it.That’s the American Dream, right there in the design. You start with what you’ve got.
You work.You build.You protect it.
And you pass it on better than you found it.If that sounds familiar, it should. It’s the same thing we help families and business owners do every single day.
What the Flag Really Stands For Here’s the part that matters most to me.For a lot of people, the flag represents the men and women who never came home. The ones who put their lives on the line so the rest of us could sleep easy, raise our kids, run our businesses, and argue about football on Sundays.
Many of them made the ultimate sacrifice behind those stars and stripes. We owe them more than we could ever pay back. That’s why we fly the flag inside our office and outside it.
We want it visible all the time, a constant reminder of what those folks gave so the rest of us could keep going. It’s why we celebrate Flag Day every June with a BBQ, live music, free food, and the whole town covered in red, white, and blue.We bring the community together, we honor the people who served, and we have a great time doing it.
It’s also why we run our flag exchange.Bring us your old, worn, faded flag, and we’ll swap it for a brand new one made right here in America, free of charge. We’ll give the retired flag a proper disposal ceremony too, because that’s how you treat something that means this much.
Did you know ninety percent of American flags get manufactured outside of America? We made a decision a long time ago that ours never would. If you’re going to fly the symbol of this country, fly one that was actually built by this country. To us, that’s not a small detail.
That’s the whole point.Honor It the Right Way The flag deserves respect, and respecting it comes down to a few simple things worth knowing.Fly it from sunrise to sunset, or keep it lit at night if you want it up around the clock.
Don’t fly it in cold or wet weather unless it’s an all-weather flag built to take it.When you hang it indoors, keep the blue field of stars to the viewer’s left so people see it the way it’s meant to be seen. And when it’s faded, torn, and ready to retire, please don’t throw it in the trash.
That’s not how you treat something people died for.Bring it to us.We’ll handle the ceremony and send you home with a new one.
One more thing worth remembering: when you see the flag flying at half-staff, that means the nation is in mourning.Somebody we should honor was lost. It’s a small signal, but it carries a lot of weight.
Fly Yours High The flag stands for sacrifice, for freedom, for the people who built this country and the people who keep it safe.It stands for the family down the street, the small business owner working late, the veteran who came home and the one who didn’t.It stands for the American Dream, the same dream we help our clients protect every single day right here in Stafford Springs.
So fly yours high.If your flag has seen better days, stop by and we’ll take care of you.And if you don’t have one yet, come grab one.
Let’s keep this whole town red, white, and blue.Call us at 860-684-5270 or come see us at 8 East Main Street. We’d be proud to put a new flag in your hands.
