On May 5, 2020, we notified clients that the Departments of Labor (DOL) and the Treasury (Departments) issued deadline relief to help employee benefit plans, plan participants and plan service providers impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. This relief was specifically in the form of participant deadline extensions affecting COBRA continuation coverage, special enrollment periods, claims for benefits, appeals of denied claims and external review of certain claims.Barring any late-breaking regulatory update, these extensions are set to expire on February 28, 2021.There is no action you need to take at this time- if you took advantage of any of the available extensions for your plans, you merely need to discontinue allowing this flexibility effective February 28 and return to adhering to normal deadlines for COBRA, etc.Click here for a complete overview. We will update you if there are any regulatory updates affecting this expiration.
