Aon appoints Dan Hartung to lead Global Event Response for Risk Capital

Global insurance and reinsurance broker Aon has appointed Dan Hartung as global head of event response within its Risk Capital division, as the firm seeks to strengthen its real-time catastrophe intelligence capabilities amid increasing demand for responsive and integrated disaster analytics.Hartung, a catastrophe analytics veteran and meteorologist with nearly 15 years of experience, will now lead Aon’s event response team, tasked with delivering real-time insights to both insurance and commercial risk clients before, during and after major natural disasters.Based in Baltimore, Hartung has been with Aon since 2012, having joined as a catastrophe risk analyst. He was promoted to senior analyst the following year and has since held a series of leadership roles, including Director, Associate Director, and most recently, Managing Director.

In his new role, Hartung will oversee efforts to estimate industry exposures and financial impacts from significant regional and global catastrophes. The team will leverage Aon’s proprietary data assets and third-party collaborations, including automated event response solutions, industry exposure databases, and loss modeling from the firm’s Catastrophe Insight unit.Paul Shedden, head of Risk Capital analytics at Aon, commented: “Natural catastrophe events are inherently complex, resulting in substantial economic losses, including $125 billion already in 2025.

Accurately assessing their impact requires synthesizing data from a wide range of sources.By enhancing our event response capabilities, we’re uniting Aon’s expertise to provide clients with a single, integrated view of risk.“We’re pleased to have Dan lead this critical function, helping clients navigate volatility, strengthen resilience and make more informed decisions.” Tracy Hatlestad, global head of property reinsurance at Aon, said: “As property insurers face increasing pressure to manage catastrophe risk with speed and precision, Aon is committed to delivering timely, data-driven insights that support better decisions—from claims response and reinsurance recovery to internal reporting.

“Dan’s deep expertise in catastrophe analytics and his proven ability to lead through complexity make him the ideal person to guide this effort. His leadership will be instrumental in expanding the reach and impact of our event response capabilities across the insurance sector and beyond.” Aon has also confirmed that Hartung will play a key role in the development of a new event analytics platform slated for release later this year. The tool will reportedly enable clients to visualize complex catastrophe events, assess risk on both portfolio and location levels, and receive customised alerts, supporting a more proactive, data-driven approach to risk and reinsurance management..
